About 925 Sterling Silver, Bronze, & Brass

All Jewelry Evolution8 jewelry is made out of either solid 925 Sterling Silver, solid Bronze, or solid Brass. All of these metals will take on a natural patina with exposure to moisture and oxygen. This is a normal and natural process, and cannot be avoided entirely. Generally Sterling Silver will patina black, Bronze will patina black/green, and brass will patina black.

Clear Coating

We do apply a clear hypo-allergenic coating to our Bronze and Brass jewelry, which delays tarnishing. This is applied with electric currents like plating, only clear. Because of this it will eventually wear through, especially on surfaces which are constantly rubbing against skin such as the insides of rings and bracelets.  

About Patina

What is Patina?

Patina, or oxidation, occurs when metals are exposed to oxygen. Certain things will affect the rate and extent of this process.

What causes oxidation?

Sweat, chemicals, strong scents, and especially sulfur will all expedite oxidation. Some people can wear silver chains and the silver will remain shiny, and others can wear silver chain only for a short time before the chain will turn black. This is due to the composition of the person's sweat, and is unpredictable.

Should I clean the patina?

Patina on certain jewelry styles will actually enhance the beauty and depth of the design. Allowing the natural patina to remain on your jewelry is a personal choice. If you prefer your jewelry to remain shiny, we encourage you to use Sunshine Polishing cloths and then rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly. There are many natural at-home cleaning methods. Will my jewelry turns my skin black or green?

It might. This reaction happens due to the copper content in brass and bronze, and the alloy content in 925 sterling silver. 925 actually means 92.5 % pure silver, 7.5 % alloy. We mix silver because pure silver is too soft to wear well. 925 is a standard industry mix. If your jewelry turns your finger or wrist black or green , you can prevent this by applying a thin layer of clear nail polish to the inside of your piece. All our bronze and brass jewelry has a clear coating pre-applied which will last a long time on earrings, but will wear off over time on surfaces that rub against other surfaces, such as on the insides of rings and bracelets.

Best Practices

Best practices to prolong the shine and beauty of your jewelry are to remove your jewelry before:

Swimming, showering, exercising, cleaning, cooking, or applying scented care products to your body

When you are not wearing your jewelry, store it in a clean, dry, air-tight container. A tupperware or re-sealable plastic bag will work best, as simple exposure to oxygen will patina metals.

Cleaning

How do I clean my jewelry?

If a layer of patina does build up on your jewelry, we recommend you use a treated polishing cloth to lightly buff the surface. We love Sunshine Polishing cloths available for purchase HERE. After buffing, rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemical dips as these can damage metals and gemstones. We have collected some at-home jewelry cleaning recipes on our Pinterest. Shipping Status

As soon as your order has shipped you will receive an e-mail notification with your tracking number. If you don't see this e-mail and wish to track your package, please try checking your spam folder or e-mail us with your order number.

Please note International USPS First Class Tracking numbers allow for general tracking information, but do not give detailed location information. If you wish to ship with detailed international tracking information please e-mail us for special shipping methods and rates.

It is also important to note that International packages cannot be expedited. Depending on your country, customs may hold on to your package for clearance, and these times are unpredictable and shipping carriers are unable to provide information in regards to how long clearance will take. Duties and taxes assessed by customs are the responsibility of the customer. Country of origin is ID (Indonesia).  

Returns and Exchanges

We accept returns and exchanges.

Returns within 60 days will be refunded in the full amount minus shipping costs as long as merchandise is returned in its original condition with packaging. If you wish to return an item please e-mail nea@jewelryevolution.com for directions. In your e-mail please include your original order number. Customers will be responsible for return shipping costs.

Exchanges for different sizes or items are accepted as long as merchandise is returned in its original condition with packaging. If you wish to make an exchange, please e-mail nea@jewelryevolution.com for instructions. In your e-mail please include your original order number, and desired exchange item and/or size with shipping address confirmation. Customers will be responsible for shipping costs to exchange an item. As soon as we receive you original item we will ship your exchange item with a confirmation e-mail.

Q. How quickly will my order ship out?  A. For orders received before 1 pm CST, we will ship out the same business day. Orders received after 1 pm CST will ship out the next business day. If for some reason there will be a delay we will do our best to notify you within 24 hours.

Q. My bracelet is a little to large / small. Do you offer size exchanges? A. Yes. Please email us what size you have and what size you will need. We will send your exchange as soon as we receive your shipping proof for your exchange.

Q. What is your jewelry made of? A. We make jewelry out of solid 925 Sterling Silver, Solid Bronze, and a limited range in Solid Brass. All chains and ear-wires are made of solid 925 Sterling Silver, even on the bronze items. We put a clear coating on all the Bronze and Brass pieces to delay tarnishing.  

Q. Will my jewelry turn black or green? A. All metals will eventually oxidize with exposure to oxygen, strong scents, chemicals, sweat, and water. Bronze will tarnish a green-black due to it's copper content and Brass will tarnish black. We do put a clear coating on all the Bronze and Brass pieces to delay tarnishing but like a plating, this clear coat will wear off, especially on the inside of bracelets which are constantly rubbing against your skin. This coating can last for years on earrings. We will send you a best-practices care card with details on how to best care for your jewelry.

Q. How can I clean my jewelry if it tarnishes? A. We recommend using a treated polishing cloth to clean your jewelry.
